Spidey and his posse of Marvel Comics superheroes will unleash their powers in the UAE next year, when a theme park hosting the characters will open in Dubai, local daily the National reported.
Marvel Adventure, a new indoor family entertainment centre is set to open its doors to the superheroes and its comic crazy fans in a venue called City of Arabia.
The announcement of the indoor theme park coincides with the local success of the international blockbuster superhero flick, The Avengers, which raked in AED 23 million ($6.26 million) in the UAE since it was released in cinemas across the country last month.
The Amazing Spider-Man is scheduled for cinematic release during the summer season, followed by Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 the following year.
The City of Arabia development, despite covering 1.2 million square feet, will be dwarfed by Abu Dhabi’s Ferrari World, the world’s biggest indoor theme park. Developers Ilyas and Mustafa Galadari of IMG Group expressed their enthusiasm in collaborating with Marvel for the new project.
The center will also incorporate retail outlets, restaurants, and a host of interactive experiences including the likes of the Hulk and Captain America.
Andy Fordham, technical and digital film director at Gulf Film, said the park is a great move for the film industry, adding that the UAE has one of the highest attendances per person in cinemas, which means the park’s concept has to be executed up to par.
The park is expected to attract over 10,000 visitors per day, in turn boosting hotel business in the area.
Development plans for the City of Arabia include entertainment, commercial, and residential projects. It was originally scheduled to open last year, featuring a dinosaur theme park and the world’s largest shopping mall.
The development, launched in 2003, has been put on hold for years, and work has begun of few of the 40 projects.
