Marriott International hotel
In another sign that interest in Bosnia and Herzegovina as a tourist destination is growing, Marriott International has announced plans to open its first hotel in the region by late 2014. The Residence Inn Sarajevo will be located 20 minutes
from the airport near the old city and feature 75 suites. When it enters the market next year, Marriott International will become the only internationally branded hotel in the country.
The move also points to Sarajevo’s potential as an evolving business destination, the company says.
Meanwhile, National Geographic Traveler magazine named Sarajevo one of the best cities to visit in 2014 in its December 2013/January 2014 issue.
As the magazine points out, though it was called “the world’s most dangerous city” during the war in the 1990, Sarajevo is now among Europe’s safest capitals.
Lonely Planet calls the destination a bustling city “notable for its attractive contours and East-meets-West ambience.”
