Pink Caravan, a pan-UAE breast cancer awareness initiative by Friends of Cancer Patients (FoCP), announced yesterday its partnership with Dubai Properties, the developer and manager of Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), to hold a number of activities at the destination to raise awareness on early detection of breast cancer.
The three-day awareness campaign will be held at JBR from the 29th to the 31st of October; which includes the free breast cancer examination clinic, the Pink Caravan Golden Hands Exhibition and a horse parade. The designated children's area at the event will offer pony rides and a variety of entertaining activities. Pink Caravan representatives will also be handing out educational brochures and pamphlets to all the visitors to JBR.
Dr. Sawsan Al Madhi, Director General of FoCP and Head of the Pink Caravan Medical and Awareness Committee said, "Pink Caravan works hard to spread the message that breast cancer is highly treatable and completely curable if it is detected in the early stages. According to medical studies and research, if breast cancer is found early, 98 percent of women will be completely cured. This is why October is observed globally as the breast cancer awareness month to raise public awareness about this disease, which can affect men as well as women."
Al Madhi commended the significant support Dubai Properties has offered to make the Pink Caravan initiative a success this year, highlighting the important role that JBR will play in contributing to further raise breast cancer awareness to the wider audience, considering its popularity and the anticipated turnout.
"It is very important to reach out to the wider community to educate them on the importance of breast cancer early detection through regular health checks. Pink Caravan is keen on collaborating with private and public entities to ensure its message is received across the country and beyond" she added.
Mohammed bin Essa, Executive Director Retail & Commercial Properties said, "We are proud to be working in cooperation with Pink Caravan at JBR as part of Dubai Properties programme of initiatives focused on promoting the welfare of all our communities. With an average of 100,000 visitors per week we strongly believe that the popularity of JBR as destination is an ideal venue to help raise awareness for this important women's health initiative."
During its annual ride in 2015, the Pink Caravan, through its mobile clinics, offered free breast cancer screenings to more than 5,000 male and female Emirati citizens and expatriates, bringing the total number of people examined to over 34,400 including 7,873 men, over the past five years. The medical examinations were conducted by a fully equipped team consisting of 150 medical staff, including doctors, nurses, assistants and technicians, with Emirati doctors constituting 62% of the participating physicians.
