The Paris based perfumer has created a signature fragrance for the 27th edition of the Biennale des Antiquaires, set to take place September 11 to 21 at the Grand Palais in Paris.
This year's theme, chosen by renowned interior designer Jacques Grange, is French Gardens.
When guest arrive at the Grand Palais, they'll be confronted with an oval stone fountain, fragranced by Kurkdjian with a new all-natural blend designed to replicate the scent of lush, freshly cut foliage, with a hint of rose.
Kurkdjian is certainly the man for the job. Having studied at the ISIPCA, the perfumery school in the city of Versailles, he was a regular visitor to the Palace's gardens. He's previous riffed on the historical site's many themes, recreating Marie Antoinette's fragrance in 2004, and reproducing a pair of scented leather gloves using 18th century techniques. In 2006 he also perfumed the circular pool of the Orangerie as part of that year's edition of the Versailles Off festival.
The new fragrance created for the Biennale was also used to create Côté Jardin, a set of three scented dinner candles priced at €28 and available in the Maison's rue d'Alger boutique, and decorated in a box covered with flowerbed patterns designed by André le Nôtre for Louis XIV. The candle set goes on sale September 10.
