New head of the musicians syndicate in Egypt, Mostafa Kamel
Egyptian Singer and composer Mostafa Kamel snatched the coveted title of Head Musician on Saturday at Jalal El Cherkaour theatre in Cairo, Egypt.
The musician beat fellow singers Mohamed El Helw
and Mounir Alweseme, in the Musician Union elections, receiving 917 votes.
406 to Mounir Alweseme received 406 votes, while Mohamed El Helw attracted only 94.
In his first media statement as head musician, Kamel told Arabstoday: “I must thank everyone that supported me today and stood next to me in order to bring glory back to the union after a long period of trouble. They have placed their confidence in me and trust and together we will start reconstructing the union.”
He emphasisd: “I’m not head of the musicians, I am their servant. We aren’t all successful singers; there are those who are poor and hungry - large number of orphans that gave me their vote who I will support.’
Kamel added: I will start working from tomorrow. I will hold a meeting with the members in order to find solutions that will help get the union out of this crisis.”
The musician went on to thank his colleagues and fellow candidates that lost out, saying: “I hope we will be able to cooperate and rise together.”
