Joumana Mourad
Q. What about your last award in Dear Guest Magazine?
A. Thank God! I have previously received much praise for my role in "Kaf Al-Qammar" (Palm of the Moon), but always
from the audience. Director Ahmed Hamid informed me of the result of the Dear Guest's poll while I was in Beirut and I was very happy about it.
Q. Do all the awards for "Kaf Al-Qammar" prove the success of the film?
A. Sure. However, I don't think I have been awarded because of the film's success.
Q. What about your experience in presenting a TV programme?
A. The programme will be aired on LBC TV for the first time in the Arab world and it is the Arabic version of the original programme, which won the International Emmy Award. After the success of the first season, they asked me to present the second. After discussions, I accepted the offer for the chance to work for a prestigious TV channel like LBC. On the other hand, I also love cooking and I believe it is a kind of art which made me go through this experience!
Q. What are your main concerns before presenting the programme?
A. I'm always very worried whenever I shoot a film or a series; I do it even more when it comes to present a programme. This offer from LBC was very tempting.
Q. To what extent do you wait for the audience's feedback?
A. I'm very impatient to know it. I yearn for their response.
Q. Can you tell us about the most important scenes of the programme?
A. I will not reveal them until the programme will be aired. It will be a surprise for the audience.
Q. What about your experience with director Khaled Youssef?
A. I very much enjoyed working with him. I have learnt a lot from him, both at a personal and professional level. He cares about the actors who work for him and he always does his best at work. I felt like I was doing a workshop with him, and I enjoyed it very much. He is a gentleman as well.
Q. Do you have more projects lined up with Youssef?
A. I would be very happy to work with him again.
Q. Was your eagerness to play the role of a local girl a way to reach the audience's heart?
A. I have played several roles - businesswoman, a lawyer and dozens of other characters. However, this role represents the largest part of the community and it won the admiration of the public for that.
Q. When will you play a main character?
A. I used to work for a collective cooperation; I do accept minor roles and I prefer them. However, I am about to star in "Julia".
Q. What can you tell us about playing the role of a mother in the series "Matloub Rejal" (Men Wanted)?
A. I was very enthusiastic about playing that role; it was the first time for me. The series as a whole was risky as the people were not used to such long episodes. But each episode was full of interesting events which did not bore them.
Q. How do you choose your roles?
A. My choice mainly depends on the scripts presented to me. I spend a lot of time choosing them.
Q. You never expressed your opinion about the Syrian revolution. Do you support it?
A. I am an apolitical actress. I am not interested in politics. I do not like talking about it, especially because I do not like to talk about things I am not familiar with and I am not fully aware of. Also, an actor has to be neutral in order to play different roles. However, as a Syrian citizen, I am against killings. There should be another solution. I think that dialogue is the solution for this crisis. I hope security and safety will return to Syria and to the Arab world as a whole.
Q. What about your love life?
A. Love is the oxygen of life. My life is full of love; I could not live without it. I am full of love even when I stand in front of the camera. I find love everywhere while walking in the streets.
Q. What's next?
A. I have received several offers, now I have to choose amongst them.
