Egyptian actress Ayten Amer
Egyptian actress Ayten Amer has rejected claims that her performance in Al-Zowga al-Thania (The Second Wife) tries to imitate the prominent late Egyptian actress Soad Hosny
, known as Cinderella in honour of one of her most famous roles.
In an interview with Arab Today, the star protested that comparing her acting to Cinderella was unfair, as she had tried hard to bring her own style to the role. Ayten urged fans to keep watching the Ramadan series, insisting that she had in fact been eager to move away from the Hosny tradition.
The star added that she had received good feedback about the series, which she finished shooting on June 25.
Al-Zowga al-Thania also stars Amr Abdel Gelil, Ola Ghanem, Amr Waked, Inas Ezz el-Din, Ahmed Seyam, Zaki Fatin Abdul Wahab, and Hesham Ismail. It was written by Yasin al-Daw and directed by Khairy Beshara.
The show will not be Ayten’s only TV appearance during Ramadan – the actress revealed that the shooting of a second show, El-Walida Basha (The Great Mother), will wrap up soon.
The Egyptian series tells the story of a poor woman whose life is turned upside down when her oldest son is accused of murder. Ayten is cast as the woman’s daughter, whose dreams of escaping her meagre conditions are hampered by her brother’s imprisonment.
Written by Mohammed Ashraf and directed by Shereen Adel, the show stars Basim Samra, Abeer Sabri, Sawsan Badr and Salah Abdallah.
Ayten also told Arab Today that she was delighted at the success of her last film Harag wa Marag (Chaos and Disorder), the first offering from the young director Nadine Khan, which told the story of two tough youths competing for a girl and settle their scores on the football field.
