Warda al-Jazairia at the Baalbek International Festival, Lebanon
Late Algerian singer Warda al-Jazairia was celebrated on the first anniversary of her death on Sunday.
The gala included a debuting of a posthumous video clip for an unreleased
song, Days - which was recorded in 2009.
The celebration was held at Almuhajir Hall, Algeria and was attended by a host of Arab actors, musicians and media personalities.
Hailed as the natural successor to the great Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum, Warda died in May 2012 before she could start filming the accompanying video in June.
Film director Moaenes Khemar used his cinematic expertise to shoot the seven minute long feature.
The music video was filmed at various cities in the Algeria, including the capital Algier and the Bajaia region.
The finished piece speaks about hope, love, and peace – in keeping with Warda’s legacy.
Lebanese Information Minister Walid Daouk and media mogul Jamal Fayad, also travelled to Algeria to pay their respects. They were also joined by famed art historian Wajdi al-Hakim, who was a friend of the late singer.
The music video was well-received and praised by all present at the event. They heralded the work as a great tribute to Warda’s long artistic career – which exceeded the Arab World.
