The International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) and Naval Defence Exhibition (NAVDEX) and Unmanned Systems Exhibition (UMEX) hosted the official press conference at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
Speaking to assembled journalists, Staff Major General Obaid Al Ketbi, Chairman of the IDEX 2015 Higher Committee, underlined the large support and participation of the international defence community that has boosted the status and role of IDEX as a commercial exhibition since its inauguration in 1993, as well as the growing role of Emirate companies at the show.
"The defence industry is one of the core pillars of the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030. IDEX provides many opportunities to demonstrate the growing capacities of the defence and security industries sector," said Staff Major General Obaid Al Ketbi.
"The first day of commercial announcements at IDEX further demonstrates the significant platform of IDEX, allowing companies to build partnerships with leading international manufacturers and to knowledge share with industry peers. I am sure tomorrow will bring further strategic announcements from the world's defence community. This year we anticipate an even greater result, supported by the IDEX's parallel events, NAVDEX and UMEX." Yesterday's deals included: 1. Service contracts: The UAE Armed Forces and Al Taif Technical Services Company signed a contract to offer maintenance services to equipment and vehicles operated by on ground forces. The contract is worth Dh 2.4 billion.
2. NIMR Automotive: The UAE Armed Forces contracted with Nimr Automotive to purchase 500 vehicles, as well as the development of 500 vehicles. The contract is worth Dh 1.2 billion.
3. Unmanned Aerial Systems Purchase: Contract with Airbus Defence and Thales Alenia to purchase 2 satellites and ground control stations is worth Dh 3.745 billion.
4. Unmanned Aircraft Systems Purchase: During UMEX, the UAE Armed Forces contracted with Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Investments (ADASI), to purchase an Unmanned Aircraft System worth Dh 490 million.
5. Marine Spare Parts Purchase: During NAVDEX, the UAE Armed Forces contracted with Abu Dhabi Ship Building Company for the purchase of 2 MV Leila vessels. The contract is worth Dh 870 million.
6. Electronic Defence Systems Development: Contracted with ELETTRONICA SPA Italian company to provide technical backing, maintenance and development of mobile electronic defence equipment. The contract is valued Dh 96 million.
7. Aircraft Spare Parts, Maintenance and Repair Facilities: The UAE Armed Forces contracted with AMMROC to provide spare parts, maintenance and repair for aviation aircrafts. The value of the contract is Dh 200 million.
8. Maintenance and Repair Services: A contract with Al-Jaber Land Systems to supply spare parts, maintenance and repair field trailers was agreed upon at the value of Dh 83 million.
9. Fire Extinguishing Equipment Purchase: The deal with Rosenbauer International Company was for the purchase of 14 firefighting equipment, with a total value of Dh 24 million.
10. Ammunition Purchase: The contract with Milipol International Establishment for the purchase of various ammunition is worth Dh 68 million.
11. Marine Spare Parts Purchase: The contract with Al Fattan Ship Industry to manufacture 8 boats with a total value of Dh 18.5 million.
12. Technical Support: Contracted with KBP INSTRUMENT Design Bureau to provide technical support for anti-armour weapons is worth Dh 22 million.
13. Technical support: Contracted with the Abu Dhabi Airport Company to provide technical support for aircrafts worth Dh 70 million.
14. Cannons Purchase: Contracted with the International Golden Group to purchase of cannons, in addition to the necessary parts worth Dh 52 million.
15. Simulators Purchase: The contract with Cubic Simulation Systems Company to purchase training simulators is valued at Dh 21 million.
16. Jiu Jitsu Training: In the context of the UAE Armed Forces' pursuit to train its staff on the martial arts, a contract with Palms Sports Company to provide Jiu Jitsu training services was agreed upon at a total value of Dh 47.5 million.
17. Equipment Maintenance: The UAE Armed Forces contracted with Al Masood for the maintenance and repair of different equipment, valued at Dh 30 million.
18. Simulator Training: The UAE Armed Forces contracted with PFP Systems for the purchase, installation and operation of training simulators for the Navy and the provision of technical assistants. The contract value is Dh 35 million.
19. The establishment of Meteorology Centre: The UAE Armed Forces contracted with Naval Advanced Solutions to develop the Science Centre of Meteorology and Oceanology. The contract value is Dh 35 million.
