Total net tonnage of 3,627,050 has passed through Suez Canal in one day

The Suez Canal achieved a record one day net tonnage on Sunday, for the first time since the waterway was opened to navigation in 1869, a Suez Canal Authority official has confirmed
.The daily navigation report posted on the Suez Canal Authority’s website put the net tonnage of cargo to pass through the canal in both directions, at 3,627,050 tonnes borne on 57 vessels.
The report details that the southbound convoys included 38 vessels with a net tonnage of 2,391,175 and that the northbound convoy included 19 vessels with a net tonnage of 1,235,875
The vessel with the heaviest gross tonnage in the southbound convoy was the CMA CGM Marco Polo, a UK container ship carrying 176,715 tonnes. The ship arrived from from Malta and is destined for the UAE.
The heaviest northbound ship was the Marshall Islands LNG vessel, Al Ghuwairiya. The 171,158-tonne vessel passed through the Suez Canal on its journey from Oman to Canada.
