UAE Board on Books for Young People (UABBY) workshop "Books — Made in UAE”, the innovative project focused on fostering the development of Emirati children's and young adult literature in Arabic and run by the UAE Board on Books for Young People (UABBY) in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region, is continuing its high impact schedule of activities with a four-day workshop featuring acclaimed children's writer Anja Tuckermann.
Taking place from the 27th to the 30th of April, the workshop will give ten Emirati children's book authors the opportunity to work with Anja Tuckermann on their story lines and book projects, discuss the problems and challenges of writing for children, and exchange ideas in a friendly and supportive environment.
Speaking about the workshop, president of the UAEBBY executive board Marwa Obaid Al Aqroubi, said, "Books - Made in UAE is one of our most exciting projects and after the success of the project's first two editions it is wonderful now to watch as the authors involved in this third instalment grow and develop. With this edition we are once again returning to a focus on creating children's books and are extremely pleased that the project's participants will have the opportunity to benefit from the vast experience of Anja Tuckermann.”
"We want to encourage the sustainable growth of exciting Emirati children's literature,” Dr Gabriele Landwehr, general manager of the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region, explains.
"Our aim is to have excellent children's books published and bring them to children, to make the young generation a generation of book lovers. We have gained valuable experiences in the field of reading promotion in Germany. The renowned German authors and illustrators work together with Emirati authors and illustrators who get professional support for their work, for the negotiation with publishers and for the marketing of their books. The German authors and we at the Goethe-Institut have enjoyed the cooperation immensely.”
The third edition of ‘Books - Made in UAE' will once again team one writer with one illustrator with the purpose of creating a truly Emirati children's book.
Participants selected to take part in the project will have the unmatched opportunity of working with acclaimed book authors and illustrators over the course of a series of intensive workshops.
The books created during the project will also be judged by an international panel of experts.
