Experts believe secret bunker dates back to 1942
Secret tunnels have been discovered in an underground complex under the Palazzo Venezia. The Art Newspaper reported that 9 reinforced concrete tunnels had been discovered.
The Medieval building was
occupied by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini during the Second World War. Experts believe that the tunnels were built when the tide of the war began to turn against axis powers.
The Palazzo Venezia, formally the Palace of St Mark, has undergone many guises and extensions. The bunker was discovered in 2010, but further tunnels have since been discovered.
