Sharjah Light Festival (SLF) 2013
Lights will illuminate Sharjah's architectural monuments as the emirate prepares to celebrate the fourth edition of the Sharjah Light Festival (SLF), which is set to start on February 6. The Sharjah Light Festival, the first and largest
of its kind in the Middle East, is an event that highlights Emirati, Arabic and Islamic culture. The event features international artists and performers who use the magic of lighting and cutting-edge 3D technology to narrate the story of Sharjah's heritage and architecture.
This year, the festival will be celebrated under the theme of Sharjah, the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2014.
The light presentations and designs will take place in 12 different locations of which nine will be in Sharjah, and three will be in the Eastern Region of the emirate. The opening ceremony will take place at Sharjah Municipality's grand new building located at Kuwait Square.
Taking place until February 14, the festival's sites include Sharjah Municipality, Kuwait Square, Cultural Palace Square, King Faisal Mosque, Al Majaz Mosque, Al Majaz Waterfront, Central Souq, and Al Qasba's internal façade. The festivities will also continue in Dr Shaikh Sultan Al Qasimi Centre of Gulf Studies, Hamza bin Abdul Mottaleb Mosque in Kalba, and Omar bin Al Khattab Mosque in Khor Fakkan. Also a part of the festival's line-up of events is an hour-long parade that will start at Flag Island and cover the expanse of Khalid Lagoon before leading to the Central Souq. The festival, which is organised by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), will be held for nine nights from 7pm to 11pm on weekdays and until midnight on weekends.
