Musician Nasser Shamma will give a concert on the \'International Day of Peace\' in Baghdad on Friday night, have announced the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) . On this occasion, 14
Iraqi political parties have agreed to work on establishing peace in the country, to reduce crime and control violence. The United Nations Development Programme administrator Peter Batchelor said that more details will be revealed during the concert.
The concert in Baghdad will be held simultaneously with other concerts all over the world to revive the International Day for Peace.
Representative of Secretary-General for the United Nations in Iraq George Posten said \" The United Nations are ready to help Iraq and work day and night to narrow the differences between the political components and to facilitate dialogue. We are happy with every step that would bring stability to Iraq”.
Posten expressed his optimism “because the Iraqi political sphere has realised that the Iraqi people are living in difficult conditions.\"
The first International Day for Peace was celebrated in September 1982. In 2001, the General Assembly voted unanimously to revive the International day of Peace on September 21 and called for a cessation of hostilities on that day.
