Arab News, the Middle East’s leading English language daily, has announced the appointment of Saudi artist Mohammed Rayes as its new resident cartoonist.
Rayes, 31, has been a published cartoonist since the year 2000. He has won several local awards and worked previously with various Saudi Research and Marketing Group (SRMG) publications, including the London-based Asharq Al-Awsat, before moving to work with local Saudi daily, Okaz. He then left to continue his studies in the United States. Commenting on the appointment, Arab News Editor-in-Chief Faisal J. Abbas said: “We are pleased to have Mohammed Rayes join us. His cartoons truly have the ability to go beyond borders and will be appreciated by readers of both our print and online editions of their backgrounds.”
“We are also pleased to announce the creation of a permanent gallery of Mohammad Rayes’s artwork at the Arab News offices in Jeddah. This will enable our fellow journalists, academics, diplomats and public figures who visit us to enjoy the creativity of this truly-talented and self-taught Saudi artist.”
Rayes’s first Arab News cartoon is published in today’s edition’s opinion pages; his work will also be shared on the newspaper’s various social media platforms on daily basis.
