Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF) has launched the newest edition of its ‘Book in Minutes' initiative that aims to strengthen the culture of reading and knowledge exchange with the goal of enriching minds and fostering values, reflecting the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the U.A.E. and Ruler of Dubai, to enhance the spirit of positivity to achieve a beautiful perspective on life.
Jamal bin Huwaireb, Managing Director of MBRF, said the new edition further underlines the spirit of cooperation and partnership to drive personal and professional success. "One of the most compelling examples of the success of partnership and collaboration is the United Arab Emirates. Our nation and leadership inspires us to achieve the best through teamwork.' "HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum observed: ‘One of the main reasons for the success of the U.A.E. is the team spirit fostered by our founders in the hearts of all the sons and daughters of the homeland, and the way forward is through strengthening the spirit.' The ‘Book in Minutes' initiative brings together people and offer them a platform to share insights while discussing books that inspire us," he explained.
The latest edition features Arabic summaries of three best-selling books on self-confidence, parenting and the digital economy. The first book in the edition is ‘Confidence' authored by Dr Tomas Chamorro on the importance of self-confidence in our daily lives, and the need to link them to talent and competencies. The book also discusses the social risks of extreme self-confidence and identifies key factors that link to success such as the need to follow due diligence, the capacity to work hard and gain the trust of others.
The second book ‘The Entitlement Trap' by Richard and Linda Eyre discusses the challenges in parenting, and how excessive pampering of children instils the feeling in their mind that all their desires must be fulfilled, leading to indifference and lack of responsibility. The authors recommend a parenting style that combines different approaches to instil in their little ones the value of money and the importance of goals, values and learning, as well as sharing and caring. The book also reiterates the need to promote team spirit among children.
The final book in the edition is ‘Macrowikinomics' by Don Tapscott and Anthony Williams, which highlights the role of the Internet in promoting economic cooperation among individuals and groups. New business models that have evolved in the digital economy are also discussed in the book. Specifically, the book details the ‘wiki' approach that enables addition and modification of data transparently. It thus highlights the values of cooperation, openness, sharing, integrity and interdependence.
Launched by MBRF last year, ‘Book in Minutes' addresses all segments of the society including youth and families as well as intellectuals and business professionals. The initiative has gained acclaim with translated summaries of the book provided to the participants to enable them to lead positive lives.
