Maraya Art Centre, the innovative contemporary visual arts hub in Sharjah and an initiative by Sharjah Investment and development Authority (Shurooq), is set to be the scene of a truly remarkable display of photographic work this August as it welcomes MOBIPIXUAE's fundraising roadshow.
Taking place from the 13th to the 31st of August, this charity photography exhibition will feature the works of eight members of MOBIPIXUAE, a U.A.E. based movement dedicated to promoting creative mobile photography, alongside the amazing contributions of the young talents of 100CAMERAS, a charity dedicated to empowering children create tangible change in their communities by teaching them to capture their lives through photography. The opening night of the exhibition will also feature a special screening of the short film in addition to a presentation by the founder of MOBIPIXUAE, Reem Saeed, who will give an overview of the vision behind MOBIPIXUAE x 100CAMERAS roadshow.
Speaking about the exhibition, Maraya Art Centre Manager Giuseppe Moscatello, said, "We are very excited to be welcoming MOBIPIXUAE and 100CAMERAS to Sharjah. At Maraya we believe strongly in the power of art to make a real and positive change in people's lives, especially in the lives of the younger generation, and this exhibition is an excellent example of the power of that change. We urge everyone to head on down to Maraya to experience this powerful display of images and contribute to the empowerment of 100CAMERAS brave and talented young photographers." The exhibition will feature photographs by children taking part in the 100CAMERAS programme from South Sudan, Cuba, and India. All prints of the children's photographs will be available for sale at affordable prices, with 100 per cent proceeds going to 100CAMERAS. These proceeds will in turn be given to the family of the young photographer, allowing them to contribute towards funding local lifeline, education, and healthcare needs.
Established in 2010, Maraya Art Centre is a three storey non-profit creative space located in Sharjah, U.A.E.. Since its inception Maraya has offered the public an innovative curated exhibitions programme with leading Middle Eastern and international artists, multi-media facilities, video archive, art library and regular public programme of workshops and events designed by its in house team and guest curators. Maraya also has several public art park sites within its local vicinity that feature interactive projects and sculptures.
