The Sharjah-based cultural project, Knowledge without Borders (KWB) has recently attended a two-day conference in London called “Visible Learning World Conference 2016” with some of the biggest names in the education industry attending. The conference took place in the heart of London’s Westminster and included workshops, research presentations, case studies, and networking opportunities for industry experts in the education sector.

The conference focused on improving the learning environment in schools and is in keeping with Knowledge without Border’s aim of improving the literacy skills of school-aged children and encouraging a love of reading. Organized by the largest independent teacher training company in the UK, Osiris, the conference sought to bring leaders in education together in order to find solutions to improving learning in schools.

Rashid Al Kous, General Manager of KWB, said, “Conferences such as this shed light on modern day issues effecting learning in class rooms and bring together the top names in children’s education to spread knowledge about the best ways to tackle such issues. The latest information regarding reading initiatives around the world and learning techniques utilized by other countries has been gathered, which is important to our aims of spreading the culture of reading in Sharjah.”

Al Kous added, “Knowledge without Borders is committed to participating in more and more international events, conferences and forums in order to further spread the culture of reading in Sharjah. KWB wants to be a part of learning and reading events to find out about reading initiatives and learning opportunities around the world that can support its mission.”

“It was very exciting to meet leaders of the education industry and exchange ideas with them. Participating in workshops and listening to lecturers who have experienced great improvements in their children’s learning since beginning the visible learning journey has been fascinating,” he added.

Knowledge without Borders was launched as an initiative by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and is closely supervised and supported by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Organizing Committee of KWB. The initiative aims to establish reading as a habit among people of the UAE, by encouraging the establishment of home libraries, and supplying these libraries with books from different genres that are suitable for the entire family.
