The Ibn Battuta Mall is breaking into a riot of colours this summer as budding artists from around the world discover their canvas at the bustling art scene that has come to life as part of the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) celebrations.
Awash with a spectrum of lively shades, the Modhesh Art Project is one of the many exciting offerings at the 17th edition of the month-long extravaganza.
Nestled in the Tunisian Court of Ibn Battuta Mall, the creative space is drawing in children of all ages to unleash their creativity. In a set themed around a colourful kid's bedroom, the promising artists are seen lending the site an ingenious look as they sprinkle bursts of colours on the picture frames, the bunk bed, bedside tables, drawers, sofa and even the television set, one brush-stroke after another.
In addition to encouraging their children to be as expressive as they want, parents too are nurturing their creative talents, by infusing their own colours of imagination to their kids' works of art.
The mother of Shayaan Aly, a two-year old boy from Pakistan, said: "This is one of the best activities I've seen in malls. The Modhesh Art Project is the perfect way for kids to express their creativity, and at the same time have lots of fun while being a part of it. Usually in the malls, kids just roam around, but here they're focusing on finishing the artwork they started.”
Agatha Damyanova, a four-year old girl from Bulgaria, was seen relishing every moment of her creative escapade at the Modhesh Art Project. She said, "I like to colour. At home, I have many colouring books to paint in but I am excited to be doing this thing here at the mall.”
Iman Alinaqvi, a five-year old girl from Pakistan, was spotted completely immersed in giving the final touches to her masterpiece. Colouring the table with various shades of her choice, she too was proud of what she accomplished at the event. "I am really happy here because I get to paint however I want, whatever I want. It's a fun activity!”
Offering the kids in Dubai the opportunity to exercise their artistic skills to the fullest, the Modhesh Art Project is an amazing venue for the entire family to enjoy a colourful day out. Be it their imagination transforming into unique shapes, motifs and forms on the furniture or their own fingers, arms and faces, the activity is letting every artist, whether young or old, the fun platform to explore the world of colours from 3pm to 10 pm until August 27.
The mother of Mark Antoun, a two-year old Lebanese boy, said: "I don't mind that his body is all covered with paint now. I'm glad to see that he's having a wonderful time here while he looks for what to paint and how to paint it. I will just wash him off and clean him later; what is more important is that he's having fun with art.”
DSS will run until September 5 this year, under the theme, "The Fun Side of Summer.”
