A Fruit Basket Competition, organised as part of the Liwa Date Festival for locally produced fruit including grapes, figs, pineapple, pomegranate and grapefruit, attracted a large number of farmers from Al Gharbia (Western Region), who came to compete for the top prizes.
The total value of prizes for the competition is Dh100,000 (Dh50,000 for the winner, Dh30,000 for 2nd position, and Dh20,000 for 3rd).
The unique and pioneering competition aims to encourage farmers to care for local fruit production and maintain this type of agriculture. The introduction of this new competition comes as part of the efforts made by the organising committee of the Festival to develop this leading event, strengthen performance and improve the quality of local fruit production.
The fruit is locally produced, originating from the garden or farm owned by the participant.
