Abdellah Karroum will start in June
The Mathaf Arab Museum of Modern Art has appointed a new director to start in June. Moroccan born Abdellah Karroum will take on the position at the Doha based museum after having worked as the assistant curator for the 2012 Triennial in Tokyo.
Karroum is perfectly suited to the role with over 20 years of experience including working on biennials in Dakar in Senegal and Gwangju in South Korea. He was also the artistic director for the 2009 Marrakech biennial, reports the Arts Newspaper.
Karroum has been an active member in the Middle Eastern art community, going as far as forming his own independent art space L’appartement 22 in Rabat, Morocco.
“My plan for Mathaf includes the creation of a new strategic department continuing the museum’s international programme and special projects,” said Karroum in a press statement.
Karroum will take over from interim director Michelle Dezember.
