UAE Special Olympics has added another feather in its cap when Thani Juma Belregad won a seat in the Special Olympics Middle East and North Africa (SOMENA) Regional Advisory Council in the council's elections which held during the ongoing meeting in Moroccan city of Marrakech.
Belregad will also act as advisor to the SOMENA Regional President.
The Marrakech meeting, which is scheduled to conclude tomorrow under the presidency of Ayman Abdel Wahab, Regional President & Managing Director of the Middle East/North Africa region, will discuss the MENA's strategic plan that will be presented to the upcoming international strategic conference in Bahrain.
Mohammed Mohammed Fadil Al Hamili, Chairman of UAE Special Olympics, said the landmark achievement was a fruit of the support provided to the sports by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
On his part, Belregad affirmed that he would do everything in his power to develop and advance games of mentally challenged persons in the region.
He said that his election to the post highlighted the UAE strategy towards adaptive sports and parasports.
