31-year-old Marcelo Tavares has impressed for Lekhwiya
The directors at Qatari club al-Sailiya have opened talks with Lekhwiya to sign Brazilian defender Marcelo Tavares before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
Al-Sailiya are keen to replace Tunisian defender
Khaled al-Qirbi, whose contract has been terminated after an internal conflict with the club\'s senior management.
Al-Sailiya official Abdullah Henzab has revealed that negotiations with Tavares are ongoing, adding that he is hopeful of the defender\'s arrival to \"harmonise the rest of his colleagues for the season ahead.\"
Meanwhile, al-Sailiya players are on a two-day break from training and the management is hoepful of appointing a new coach after Tunisian Maher Kanzari resigned to take over at Esperance.
The club\'s management is currently considering the CVs of many experienced coaches who have managed in Qatar. Caretaker Mohammed Siddiqui is expected to lead training until a new coach is appointed.
