Omani rally driver, Hamed Al Wahaibi, along with his Irish co-driver, Stephen McAuley, won the second leg of the third round of the 2012 Oman Rally Championship, held on Friday in Nizwa.
Driving a Mitsubishi Evolution
10, the duo completed the 203km race – of which only 83.3km were road sections – ahead of Khalid Soomar Al Zadjali.
The event was organised by the Oman Automobile Association with support from Royal Oman Police, Ministry of Sport Affairs and Ministry of Tourism yesterday. It was sponsored by by Target LLC, Al Diyar Hotal Nizwa, Al Qabaas Printing Press and Al Watan kicked off on Thursday at Nizwa Sprots Complex.
Starting at 9am, the Super Special Stage was held near the crusher, Birkat Al Mouz and Hay Aturath, and witness a big crowd, especially youth, who had turned up for the event. The rally also emphasised the importance of road safety and safe driving. Eleven teams participated in the event, of which four retired due to technical reasons.
