Taoussi blames the defeat on temperatures and ‘psychological factors’
Rabat – Redouane Mabchour
Morocco will be flying back to North Africa with their tails between their legs, after suffering a 3-1 defeat against Tanzania in Dar es Salam in their third-round qualifying clash for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Public anger has demanded the sacking of the team’s manager, Rachid Taoussi.
The game started off inauspiciously, with Morocco dominating possession in the first half.
Raja Casablanca’s Hamza Abourazzouk missed a host of good opportunities.
One minute into the second half though and Tanzania took the initiative as striker Thomas Ulimwengu found a hole in Morocco’s defence, scoring against Moroccan keeper Nadir Lamyaghri.
Hamza Abourazzouk, Abdelaziz Barrada, and Abdelilah Hafidi all had good chances at goal but goals from Mbwana Samata in the 67th minute and 80th minute ended the North Africa’s squads hope of a victory.
Coach Taoussi has blamed the poor performance on temperatures and “psychological factors.”
Morocco’s press have dubbed the defeat as “an indelible shame.”
