Islam Slimani has signed 4-year deal with Portugese side Sporting Lisbon
Algerian top scorer Islam Slimani is hoping to learn a lot from his new club Sporting Lisbon.
Slimani, who plays forward in Algeria’s national team, announced on Thursday
he would be leaving CR Belouizdad for Portuguese team Sporting Lisbon, in a four-year deal.
Excited to be joining a club that has hosted such greats as Luis Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo, the 25-year-old described Sporting Lisbon as a footballing “school”.
In a press statement released on Thursday evening, Slimani said he had consulted colleagues on the Algerian national team before signing the contract with the Portuguese side.
Fellow players Soudani and Ghilass, who have both done stints in the Portugese championship, encouraged him make the move, Slimani said.
Regarding his future ambitions with the team, he said, \"I came to Portugal to take part in Sporting Lisbon as one of the main players, but the decision is in the hands of the coach.\"
Sporting Lisbon manager Bruno de Carvalho is equally pleased with the deal, saying the young striker will improve the performance of the team, and that the club will to be a good environment for the Algerian player to improve.
