Enzo Calzaghe (C) is proud of son, Joe (R), for his career in the ring
Newbridge - Arabstoday

Enzo Calzaghe (C) is proud of son, Joe (R), for his career in the ring Enzo Calzaghe is ready to reopen his famous Newbridge Boxing Club in Wales and begin training fighters again, according to HattonBoxing. The veteran Sardinian took his son Joe, Enzo Macarinelli and Gavin Rees to world title glories and set the foundations for Nathan Cleverly's reign before taking a short break from the sport.
But now he wants to come back with bang and will host an official launch party at the gym this Friday night prior to starting work with a new crop of Welsh warriors nine days later.
"I'm reopening the gym on March 10 after the event on the first and we'll take it from there," Enzo told HattonBoxing.
"I'll be patient to take the right boxers this time because I want quality, not quantity.
"If I just took any boxer I'd wasting my time and theirs. It takes four years to develop a fighter and then you've no guarantees that they won't turn and do a runner on you. It's happened to me before.
"I'm going to be very careful with who I choose. I pride myself on knowing how to make champs not chumps and that's not going to change now."
Without question the greatest product of Enzo's teaching was his son Joe, who retired in 2008 with a perfect 46-0 after dominating the super-middleweight division for the best part of a decade and scoring some notable scalps at light-heavyweight.
Recently, Joe was given the prestigious honour of being named as Fighter of the Decade by an influential group of New York fight figures called Ring 8.
And while Joe himself may have been a little taken back by the accolade, Enzo says it was hardly a shock to him.
"It didn't surprise me one bit," Enzo said. "It was only a matter of time before people opened their eyes and looked at what he achieved as a boxer.
"As far as I'm concerned, what he did was unique. I've been in the game for 30 years and I've not seen anything like his career. To have 22 world title fights, you've got to have something about you get through it."
Enzo added: "I'm proud of him as a fighter but I'm also proud of him as a kid. He's been a great son. I look at him with boxing and without boxing. The personality of the guy is brilliant and to go to America and be named as fighter of the decade is amazing."
