Egypt's battling display has impressed the neutrals
The Egyptian handball team lost its opening match to Hungary in the Men's Handball World Championship on Saturday.
The Hungarians opened up a 17-9 lead at half-time
, and fought off a late comeback from Egypt to secure a 32-23 triumph.
Egypt have been handed a tough group in the first phase of the tournament, with hosts Spain, Croatia, Hungary, Algeria and Australia among the opponents.
Croatia, Spain and Hungary, ranked fourth in the London Olympic Games, are favourites to qualify in the first three spots. Egypt, Algeria and Australia will battle for the remaining 4th spot.
Assem Daoud's men will face Spain in their 2nd match on Monday. The coach is hoping his team will improve from mistakes made in the Hungary game. Before the opening match, Daoud was cautious in training, making sure the players do not suffer any late injuries ahead of a monumental tournament for the national team.
Egypt's best result in the Men's Handball World Championship was their 4th-placed finish in 2001.
