Braehmer (R) is yet to find out who his opponent will be
The Sporthalle Hamburg, Germany will once again turn into a huge boxing venue come April 27. European Light Heavyweight Champion Juergen Braehmer (39-2, 30 KOs) and local
hero Jack Culcay (14-0, 10 KOs) are planning to revive the enthusiasm for the sport in northern Germany.Braehmer took the EBU-Title of Eduard Gutknecht on February 2. The former WBO-Champion came out on top after twelve exciting rounds at the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin, Germany. After the successful title challenge the 34-year-old has laid the path for another run at a world championship.
"There were some situations when it became evident that he was still a bit rusty. But it will be a whole different story in Hamburg," said his coach Karsten Roewer. Braehmer added: "The fight against Gutknecht went exactly the way I thought it would. I knew I wouldn’t be right back at 100 percent after such a long break. The fight also showed where I currently stand. In Hamburg I want to prove that I can be even better."
Braehmer´s opponent will be announced shortly. But he already knows what it feels like to be fighting inside the Sporthalle Hamburg. "I only have good memories about this arena. This is where I gave my professional debut and also won a world championship fight against Mariano Nicolas Plotinsky three years ago."
Also fighting in Hamburg will be “Golden” Jack Culcay. The amateur world champion of 2009 gave a glistering performance against Britain’s Mark Thompson on September 29 at the very same venue. Culcay won by technical knockout after five rounds. Only three months later, the Germany again proved his class by claiming another fifth round TKO victory in Nuremberg, Germany over Jean Michel Hamilcaro from France.
This year the 27-year-old WBA-Intercontinental Champion is aiming for even bigger things. "I have pretty much boxed all the European opponents available at this level. Now I want to take on the big guys from the US and Mexico," said Culcay. WBA´s number ten ranked light middleweight: "I am going for a world championship."
