Bradford players run to goalkeeper Matt Duke after another shoot-out win
Bradford City\'s shock Capital One Cup victory over Arsenal has secured the club\'s financial future, director of operations Dave Baldwin has revealed.
The Bantams beat Arsene Wenger\'s side 3-2 on penalties after the game ended 1-1
in normal and extra time. It was a record ninth penalty shoot-out victory for the minnows who can now look at getting up to a £1m in television revenues for the two-legged semi-final matches.
Baldwin told BBC Radio Leeds, \"It (the win) has secured our long-term future. The game last night has made a massive impact on the club\'s deficit. Half of the overspend has gone in one game. Of course, it\'s only an estimate at this stage, but it\'s a massive boost for the financial position of the club.\"
City took a first half lead through Garry Thompson\'s volley, but were pegged back by Thomas Vermaelen, four minutes from time. The Arsenal defender then missed the decisive spot kick to send Valley Parade into raptures.
Baldwin is hoping cup success can breed league success and the Bantams can get out of League 2. \"Our priority is getting out of this division. We have to make sure we achieve that because this is a team and a club on the up. We\'re on the crest of a wave and we\'re going to ride it out of this league,\" he said.
