CAF confirms Libya-Algeria venue on Supersport
The Algerian national football team is getting ready to meet its Libyan counterpart in the September 9 final qualifying match in Casablanca for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations hosted in South Africa at the
beginning of next year.
Algeria coach Vahid Halilhodzic earlier cancelled plans for a friendly match on August 15, deciding instead to hold a workshop with his players at the national technical centre in Sidi Moussa, near Algiers.
Algerian training started Tuesday, with players Zmamosh, Doukha, Sederic, Tejaar, Soukr, Shafi, Ben Moussa, Blcalm, Hashoud and Soleimani have reportedly been selected.
The training which will continue until August 31 is considered an examining station where Halilozic can estimate the readiness of Algerian players, and their levels of fitness.
It is not unlikely that the coach will allocate an intensive training programme for the group as he is known to criticise what he considers low levels of fitness.
The main camp is due to start September 3, as local players will be first to join, then professionals respectively, and the national team will travel to Morocco on September 6 to meet the Libyan team on September 9.
Ten local players are expected to be recalled by Halilozic to choose from, as Bosni will determine who will play against Libya.
CAF authorised Libya to play their 2013 Cup qualifying home match in Morocco, precisely in the city of Casablanca, thus putting an end to speculations about the exact venue of the Libya-Algeria clash.
The football federations representing both teams had agreed for a change of venue from Tripoli following continued instability in the North African country. The Moroccan FA had also given Libya the green light to play on its soil.
Libya have also announced a workshop in Tripoli to be topped off with a friendly match against a local side.
Libya were also made to play their home game against Cameroon in Sfax, Tunisia during the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying, with the Mediterranean Knights triumphing 2-1.
