Al-Ahly refused to wear official Egyptian Cup sponsorship T-shirts
Egyptian football champions al-Ahly have sent a letter to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), apologising for its withdrawal from the Egyptian Cup competition following an advertising dispute.
The tournament’s board of directors, headed by Hamada Al Masry, announced financial fines levied against al-Ahly after team members refused to wear T-shirts with sponsorship logos and advertising slogans.
Al-Ahly claimed the move followed a deal between the club and a rival sponsorship company.
The club is now facing EGP3m fines, while the Egyptian Cup winners will only see EGP500,000.
