Olympiakos midfielder Djamel Abdoun
Algerian footballer Djamel Abdoun says he\'s delighted to have been named the Greek Superleague\'s Player of the Season, following an impressive campaign with Olympiakos.
Speaking to
Arabstoday, Abdoun dedicated the accolade to his family and the people of Algeria for their continuous support.
The midfielder also shared his disappointment at being left out of the Algerian national team\'s 23-man squad for the Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifiers. He described the snub as a \"premeditated plot,\" but refused to name individuals behind the decision.
In terms of his club career, the 27-year said he couldn\'t be happier with his form for the Piraeus club, having helped Olympiakos to a domestic double with 10 goals and 10 assists. \"I\'m happy, this is my first season where I have scored as many goals, I hope to do even better with Olympiakos next season,\" he claimed.
Abdoun thanked his teammates for helping him settle at Karaiskakis Stadium, especially his Algerian colleague Rafik Djebbour, whom he described as \"a source of inspiration.\"
The talented playmaker is reportedly being watched by Olympique de Marseille, Fulham, Wolfsburg and Besiktas, but feel his future firmly lies with Olympiakos.
\"I want us to be successful in the UEFA Champions League next season.
\"Before that, I am hoping to recover from a few niggling injuries and play to the best of my ability to be considered by the Algerian national team coach once again.
\"Playing for Algeria in Brazil would be a dream come true,\" he asserted.
