Yemeni President visits southern separatists in search of truce

Southern Movement activists continue to clash with security forces Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi has visited the southern port city of Aden, his first visit since Hadi took office last year, following clashes between separatist demonstrations and security forces in recent weeks.
Hadi fronted a delegation of government officials, which arrived in the southern city on Saturday night.
\"Hadi will visit a number of districts in Aden. He is going to solve problems, particularly those linked to secessionists,\" government sources told Arabstoday.
This month Aden witnessed violent clashes between supporters of the secessionist Southern Movement and security forces along with the pro-government Islamist Islah Party, leaving more than 10 people dead.
On Saturday Yemeni police clashed with activists calling for a general strike aimed at hurting the government.
Hadi has meanwhile called on southern separatist group to engage in planned national reconciliation talks to settle disputes.
The Southern Movement has continually threatened to boycott the initiative, unless its demands are met.
Local medical sources said on Saturday that southern opposition elements had set fire to a northern man working in the southern city of Sayaon.
The man was rushed to hospital and was said to be in a critical condition.
