Supreme Elections Commission: the counting process would start after the referendum The vote count will start immediately after the polls shut, the Supreme Electoral Commission has declared. A man was killed in a clash between two families in the Asyut governorate. Violence broke out in the city of el-Mahallah al-Kubra , north of Egypt, which spread fear and panic among voters. The authorities have intensified their presence in the city to secure the referendum.
Two electoral violations have already been recorded in Cairo and Tanta, the April 6 Movement revealed.
Six polling stations opened later than originally scheduled.
In Alexandria, citizens have made their way to the polling stations, after bloody clashes erupted on Friday between members of the opposition and Islamist supporters. Many polling stations have not yet opened because of the judges’ late arrival.
Voters came en masse to the polling stations in al-Arish, North Sinai, while the turnout in Rafah remained fairly weak. No breaches have been monitored so far in Sinai. More than 60 judges landed in al-Arish to supervise the vote.
North Sinai’s Governor Sayed Abdel Fattah Harhoor assured that the polling stations were secured by the military. The governorate formed an operation room to monitor the voting process and hear potential complaints. Harboor added that he was confident the turnout would increase during the day.
In South Sinai, the turnout of women was low. Polling stations in St Catherine opened late because of the lack of phosphoric ink, used to mark the voters’ fingers to prevent double voting.
Security and military forces intensified their presence to secure the poll stations.
Aswan’s polling stations witnessed an average turnout, as the elders also took part in the vote.
The governorate’s operations room has not monitored any violation and has not received any complaints from the voters. Aswan’s resigned governor returned to his position to follow the referendum.
