Salafists are reportedly demanding ‘preaching tents’
A number of Salafist extremists stormed a student dormitory in Tunis, calling for it to be \"cleansed\" after rumours of a party was circulated.
Female students told Arabstoday that there was a state of panic as
a number of Salafists tried to enter their rooms.
The director of the dormitory, however, said that security in the campus prevented the group from storming the rooms.
She added that the group demanded an establishment of a \"preaching tent\" to address the students and prevent them from exercising \"immoral actions\".
Tunisia\'s Interior Ministry issued a statement questioning the authenticity of the information.
Meanwhile, an official from Public Association of Basic Education, Moledy el-Ragehy, said in a press statement on Friday that the association has decided to conduct a strike on April 24, due to the absence of dialogue with the government regarding issues previously raised. They also stressed the need to turn elementary schools into public institutions.
Tunisian Minister of Education, Salen Labeid, said that the ministry will provide solutions for issues raised, and stressed that dialogue will resume soon.
