Security has been enhanced in region after 8 soldiers were killed last month
The Tunisian military conducted airstrikes in the Chaambi Mountains as part of its campaign to root out militants in the area, officials said.
Aircraft and artillery were used in the operations
, which resumed Sunday after an indeterminate suspension, state news agency TAP reported Monday.
The mountains, near the Algerian border, have witnessed ongoing clashes between the military and armed fighters, Tunisia Live reported.
Last month, eight soldiers were killed in an ambush.
Tunisia Live said Algeria is reportedly cooperating with Tunisia on the campaign by providing military assistance and increasing security along the border. Officials said they believe the militants are moving between the two countries.
