A spokesman of the resistance committees, Abu Mujahid A spokesman of the resistance committees, Abu Mujahid  spoke to ‘Arabstoday’ saying that the second phase of the prisoners exchange deal with Israel and Hamas will start tonight, Wednesday evening , as the Israeli Prison Service will publish 550 names of Palestinian prisoners to be released in the second stage of the exchange agreement.
Abu Mujahid, who spoke from Cairo, added that the names of prisoners to be released match the criteria agreed upon between the Palestinian factions and the Egyptian mediator, noting that Israel specified the names based on the submitted criteria. He confirmed that the exchange deal will be next Sunday, December 18, noting that the factions’ approval of all names that are to be released will be based on the agreed upon criteria.
Israeli paper Haaretz quoted a major Israeli official saying that in accordance with the prisoners exchange deal, Israel will decided which prisoners are to be released, in coordination with the Egyptian government.
The same Israeli official added that all prisoners to be released “committed security violations, but none have killed Israelis. In addition, no prisoners from Hamas or Islamic Jihad are to be released, only prisoners from Fatah, PFLP, DFLP, in addition to a number of women and minors.”
Haaretz stated that the recent weeks witnessed Egyptian-Israeli communication concerning the second stage of the deal, intensifying between Israel representatives and leaders of Egyptian security services, where Israeli representatives visited Cairo to complete final details of the deal.
Haaretz reported that an Israeli official stated that releasing prisoners in the second stage has been coordinated with Egypt and Palestinian Authorities President Mahmoud Abbas. The latter has demanded, in the most recent weeks, that the Israeli government, implements the promises of former prime minister Ehud Olmert, to release hundreds of prisoners as a gesture of good will toward the Palestinian authority, however, Israel refused.
