Beirut – Georges Chahine
The Lebanese army will soon take action against the so-called "military wing" of Al Mekdad, who kidnapped Syrian rebels and a Turkish hostage, a security source told Arabstoday. The army is said to be waiting for more information on the
location of the hostages.
But another security source informed Arabstoday that Al Mekdad clan has transferred the hostages to a different place before the Lebanese army had a chance to locate them.
The leader of the Al Mekdad clan Maher Al Mekdad announced on television that the hostages disappeared weeks after the Army combed the Al Mekdad district. He said he would give more information on the hostages in a few days.
Al Ruwais, situated in the southern suburb in Beirut, where Al Mekdad clan lives, has witnessed unprecedented clashes between the military wing of the Al Mekdad clan and the Al Sorour clan since the abduction of the hostages.
Informed security sources said that the clash was provoked by a family dispute, but it developed into shootings between the two armed sides causing terror and panic in the region. The army immediately intervened and arrested Hassan Al Mekdad , Maher’s brother.
A number of people were gathered in Al Ruwais to protest against the detention of Hassan Al Mekdad
Lebanese interior minister Marawan Charbel said to Arabstoday that he refused to comment on the alleged release of the Turkish hostage.
