Syria attacks
Damascus - Noura Khowam

Commander of the al-Haydat regiment was killed in clashes between the Syrian forces and the Da'ash organization in Deir al-Zour, official media reported. Abdel Rahman al-Meer, the commander of the al-Haydat regiment, as well as members of the government forces, including a colonel, were killed during the last 24 hours during a military operation in Deir al-Zour.
Informed sources informed that the Syrian Democratic Forces militia (SDF) launched an attack, at dawn today, on the headquarters of the Islamic State group (Daesh), and captured some parts of Basira Village, northeast of Deir Ezzor, Qasioun News reported.
The sources revealed that the Syrian Democratic Forces militia attacked the positions of the Islamic State group, on the banks of the Euphrates River, northeast of Deir Ezzor, and also managed to capture some parts of Basira Village, where the extremist militants are completely besieged.
The SDF militia also recaptured the villages of Baghdadi, Dahla, Jadida and Ukaidat, after violent battles with the Islamic State militants, east of Deir Ezzor, the sources added.
It is noteworthy that some of the Islamic State militants are still besieged inside three different areas of Deir Ezzor, while still controlling some neighborhoods in the city, as well as the banks of al-Khabour River, north of Deir Ezzor.
In the same context, The Syrian regime forces and their allied militias recently managed to advance towards Albukamal City, the last stronghold of the Islamic State group (Previously Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), east of Deir Ezzor, local sources told Qasioun News on Sunday.
The sources informed that the Syrian regime forces advanced towards the city of Albukamal, east of Deir Ezzor, while planning to enter the city from three axes, including the axis of al-Mayadin City and Ashara area, in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.
Furthermore, Syrian regime forces are aiming to start their advance towards the city of Albukamal from the areas they recently recaptured in the vicinity of T2 Airbase, south of Deir Ezzor.
Meanwhile, Syrian regime are planning to recapture the province of Deir Ezzor and drive out the Islamic State fighters who are still besieged inside the areas of Hamidya, Sheikh Yassin, Omal, Rashadya, Rasafa and the old airport, in addition to some parts of Muwazafin and Jubail neighborhoods.
It is noteworthy that the Syrian regime military operations are running simultaneously, while the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militia launched an offensive, northeast of Deir Ezzor.
On the other hand, Islamic State militants have fled from western Anbar to Syria, as security troops resume advancing, a security source said.
“IS militants left their guns and fled toward al-BuKamal in Syria after many leaders ran away and were killed in airstrikes by the Iraqi and U.S.-Coalition jets againsts their locations within liberations offensives in Qaim,” the source told AlSumaria News.
“The militant group urged its militants, using speakers of the mosques in Qaim, not to run away, and that whoever escapes would be considered as traitor, who breached the allegiance, and would be strictly penalized,” the source, who preferred anonymity, added.
In related news, the Joint Operations Command airdropped more than one million leaflets urging IS militants to turn in themselves.
A statement by the War Media Cell said, “the messages included instructions to civilians and threats to IS; either to surrender or die.”
The Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced on Thursday the launch of operations to liberate Qaim and Rawa towns.
Hundreds of thousands of messages were airdropped on Wednesday on the two towns informing civilians that security troops are coming to free them and urging them to stay away from the enemy.
Both towns have been held by the extremist group since 2014, when it occupied one third of Iraq to proclaim a self-styled Islamic “Caliphate”.
