Spokesperson for the Jordanian government Muhammad al-Momeni
Security and stability has been restored to the Jordanian city of Maan, spokesperson for the Jordanian government Muhammad al-Momeni said on Tuesday.
During a press conference, Momeni said the government is closely monitoring
the city following the recent unrest.
Mann has been the centre of clashes between residents and police forces, triggered during initially peaceful demonstrations.
Two people were killed and several were injured after security officials reportedly opened fire into the crowd.
12 people were arrested during the skirmishes and are currently awaiting trial.
The incident has prompted more Jordanians to organise demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday to demand that Jordanian King Abdullah II interfere in the security crisis in the city.
A number of activists launched a march to the Royal Court after the family of one of the injured demonstrators claimed police opened fire on innocent civilians.
The brother of the injured person also said that the security forces left the injured people for two hours without providing any medical aid.
