Al-Qaeda has carried out assassinations of high ranking officials
Al-Qaeda has stepped up its presence in Yemen, particularly in the eastern region of Hadramawt, as the group seeks to capitalise on the current security crisis in the area.
The militant group has carried out a number of assassinations of army, intelligence and security forces officers in recent weeks.
Yemeni security sources told Arabstoday that the director of criminal research in Hadramaut , Abdul Rahman was killed in a roadside bomb blast that targeted his car in Sanaa.
Official authorities did not comment on the incident, which came hours after the assassination of the leader of the police and the air defence Brigadier General Yahya Al Emaisy, was shot dead by gunmen linked to al-Qaeda.
Two Yemeni officers were also killed after being shot by al-Qaeda militants at a military site south of Sanaa.
