Hezbollah sources tell Arabstoday the rumours are ‘absolutely untrue’
Hezbollah have officially denied rumours that Lebanese Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has been transferred to Iran for cancer treatment.
Informed sources have told Arabstoday the reports
were “absolutely untrue.”
A Monday report by the Voice of Beirut radio station, quoting an anonymous source inside Hezbollah, claimed Nasrallah had been transferred to Iran on Sunday “on board an Iranian presidential plane” via Beirut International airport.
Turkey’s Anatolia News Agency also quoted “knowledgeable sources affiliated with Hezbollah” as saying Nasrallah had been flown to Iran after being discharged from a hospital in southern Lebanon.
The station also claimed the Lebanese radical group had begun negotiations over who would succeed Nasrallah if his health deteriorated further.
Nasrallah’s deputy, Naim Qassem, had previously been tipped as the favourite candidate.
The Hezbollah leader was last seen 10 days ago when he delivered a televised speech to mark Martyrs Day.
