An elite unit of Israeli commandos called the “Depth Corps” has reportedly been created to stop Iran’s nuclear weapons programme, if the economic sanctions imposed did not work
.
The Depth Corps was formed to coordinate deep incursions in other countries, as the Israeli Minister of Defence admitted that the number of secret operations outside Israel had notably increased in the past year. Defence authorities in Tel Aviv stressed that the Depth Corps was not formed to combat Iran alone.
Meanwhile, the Depth Corps have been sent deep inside Iran to prepare for an all-out strike against its nuclear programme.
Tehran had repeatedly announced that Mossad hit squads, as well as US and British agents, had already carried out assassinations of key Iranian scientists, a charge refuted by Washington and London. Officials in Tel Aviv refused to comment on the accusations.
Although Israel refused to officially discuss the Corps or the assassinations, Intelligence and Nuclear Affairs Minister Dan Meridor said: “Are they natural, are they unnatural? I do not know what to tell you.”
Meridor stated that Israel was to observe the impact of the sanctions on Iran before starting any aggression, whereas most Israeli officials believed the sanctions doidnot impose enough pressure on Iran.
Meanwhile, Israeli officials said that military action had to be carried out before the end of the summer to prevent Iran from moving forward with its nuclear programme
