Syrian army tanks in Damascus
At least 20 rebels were killed on Monday in an army ambush in Adra, northeast of Syria\'s capital, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said
.
\"At least 20 rebels, including non-Syrians, were killed in an army ambush,\" said the group, which relies on a network of activists, doctors and lawyers on the ground.
State news agency SANA, citing a military source, said an army unit had killed \"mostly\" members of the Islamist group al-Nusra Front, which has many foreign recruits, in \"a well-prepared ambush.\"
The Observatory said security forces were also among those killed and injured in the clash, without giving numbers.
On August 7, the Syrian army staged an ambush in the same area, killing 62 rebels.
Adra, an industrial city 35 kilometres (20 miles) from Damascus, is a key entry point to Eastern Ghouta, an agricultural area where rebels and regime forces have frequently clashed.
Rebel-held Eastern Ghouta was one of the Damascus suburbs targeted in alleged chemical weapons attacks on August 21.
