Beirut - Georges Chahine

Lebanese forces secure the area following Fatah al-Islam attack Gunmen believed to belong to the Palestinian Islamist group Fatah al-Islam have stormed an al-Saeqa office inside the Ain el-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp in Sidon, creating tensions with the camp, security sources told Arabstoday.
Sources said that Fatah al-Islam supporters and relatives of Mahmoud Abdelkader, who was recently killed in Syria, mobbed the centre of the pro-Syrian regime Palestinian Saeqa group.
Members of the group fired gunshots into the air in order to ward off attackers.
Dozens of Syrian refugees living in Lebanon meanwhile staged a protest in front of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees [UNHCR] headquarters in the eastern town of Tripoli, demonstrating against deteriorating living conditions for displaced peoples in the country.
Representatives of Syrian refugees told UN officials about conditions inside camps following the winter’s unprecedented conditions, indicating that Syrians inside Lebanon endured much more than those elsewhere in Iraq, Turkey and Jordan.
Refugees also demanded the United Nations halt bloodshed carried out by forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad by reaffirming international recognition of the Syrian opposition.
