Al-Qaeda’s Malahem website has published the video, verified by authorities
Al-Qaeda-affiliated websites have circulated a video showing a captured Yemeni soldier accused of responsibility for the death of militant leader Adnan al-Qadi.
Hefdallah Mohammed, who admits
in the video he served in Yemen’s Republic Guard, says he facilitated the assassination of al-Qadi with the help of his 10-year-old son, Bark.
Al-Qaeda has accused both of being “American spies.”
Mohammed has admitted Yemeni military authorities provided him with two mobile phone SIM cards, which were planted on al-Qadi to guide US drones to locate and kill the al-Qaeda leader.
The video, published on al-Qaeda’s Malahem website, claims Hefdallah and Bark bear “direct responsibility” for the drone strike that killed al-Qadi.
Al-Qaeda militants have vowed to detain and kill four other Yemeni officials, displaying photographs of the targets.
Yemeni intelligence officers have verified the authenticity of the al-Qaeda video.
Adnan al-Qadi was blamed for an attack on the US embassy in Sanaa in 2008, which killed a number of Yemeni soldiers and guards.
