The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, has distributed more than 35 tons of urgent relief aid to the people of the Yemeni island of Socotra, who have been affected by Cyclone Chapala that hit several areas in the region.
Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, ERC Secretary-General, said that the emergency aid was organised according to directives of the UAE's wise leadership to provide help and assistance to Yemeni brothers on the island who have been affected by the cyclone. He said that the ERC has provided food, blankets and tents to shelter people affected.
Saeed Salem Bahguibh, Governor of Socotra, lauded the fraternal stance of the United Arab Emirates and the ERC to the people of the island in such difficult circumstances experienced by Socotra due to the cyclone that caused the displacement of thousands of people from their villages and damaged infrastructure and housing.
He said that the UAE's humanitarian attitudes embody the meanings of cohesion and inter-connection between the two countries.
Yemeni officials also praised the UAE's honourable stances and its effective and supervisory role at times of crises, disasters and conflicts in the world, which embodies the meanings of human solidarity.
The victims extended their thanks and appreciation to the UAE's wise leadership and to H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the ERC, for providing them with assistance that alleviates their difficult circumstances.
