Cairo Governor Galal Mostafa Saeed issued a decision to ban three-wheeled motorized vehicles known as "tok-toks" from streets of downtown Cairo as a first step to improve traffic and restore order in the crowded capital.
The governor said the decision will be implemented through coordination between the public administration of traffic and the executive bodies in downtown districts of Azbakiya, Abdeen, Mosqi, Wayli, Bab el Shariya, Bolaq and central and western Cairo districts.
Any violator of the decision will be fined EGP 1,500.
Tok-tok is one of the most popular modes of transportation in these areas which are characterized by narrow streets and alleys.
