Singapore Airlines has confirmed its Airbus A380 service is now flying to Frankfurt and New York, with the inaugural Singapore – Frankfurt – New York service having departed Singapore shortly after midnight. With more than 450 customers on board, flight SQ26 is scheduled to make its inaugural touchdown in Frankfurt at 06:10 local time. It will then depart the German city at 08:20hrs and arrive at New York’s JFK airport at 11:10hrs, all times local. The daily A380 flights will replace an existing daily Boeing 747-400 service to JFK Airport via Frankfurt, representing a daily increase of 25 per cent in seat capacity. Frankfurt and New York will be Singapore Airlines’ ninth and tenth destinations to receive the superjumbo. Frankfurt is Singapore Airlines’ fourth point in Europe to be added to the list, after London, Paris and Zurich, while New York is the second point in North America, after Los Angeles. The Singapore Airlines A380 has proven exceptionally popular with customers, with strong loads on all routes it serves. The world’s first carrier to operate the A380 in October 2007, Singapore Airlines has since carried more than six million customers on the superjumbo system-wide. The airline currently has 15 A380s in service and four more on firm order.
